The National Autistic Society has over 100 branches and groups across the UK, all run entirely by volunteers. The aim of all of the branches and groups is to support local autistic people and their families. What can be offered depends on how much time the volunteers are able to give, but activities may include providing information, raising awareness, supporting families and adults, campaigning and fundraising. For more information visit http://www.autism.org.uk/services/local.aspx
The Cheshire West and Chester branch is a parent led support group. We aim to provide information for parents and professionals in the Cheshire West and Chester council area. We provide a termly newsletter, support hub and resource library, information line, Autism Carers Groups (Chester and Northwich) and meetings with statutory agencies for parents. We work to raise awareness about autism in order that appropriate services can be developed and also work with statutory agencies and are represented by parents/carers on many multi-disciplinary working groups.
(Please note we are unable to offer support to families living outside the Cheshire West and Chester local authority area).
Our e-mail for general enquiries is: firstname.lastname@example.org
and for Family Seminar enquiries is: email@example.com
Our branch like all other local branches and groups is run by volunteers: please be aware that it may not be possible for your call to be answered straight away.
Current Volunteer Vacancies
Our support hub and library at Greenbank School is now open and we are looking for volunteers who would be happy to help with the various tasks that need to be done to ensure the smooth running of the support we offer. We have a core team of volunteers but would welcome additional support, this doesn’t have to be every week and there are a range of tasks, some customer facing and others not. All roles are equally important, those tasks that are unseen but are vital, returning books to shelves, following up on overdue books, helping to send out newsletters etc. So of you feel you have a few hours to spare please pop in and have a chat with our existing volunteers.
